Named after a once-forgotten house in Hopwood, Pennsylvania, the imprint was born from peeling wallpaper, flooded basements, and whispered memories. “You must be crazy to take this on,” they said. But we saw something else: a place that had been loved once, and could be loved again.
Now nearly restored, La Maison Folle stands as a symbol of storytelling itself—imperfect, resilient, and waiting to be remembered. The publishing house honors fiction that wanders, weeps, and wonders. Samantha Smiley is a Human Resource and Compliance Executive turned novelist and creative entrepreneur. Her journey into writing began after a life-changing reunion with her birth mother—a moment that opened the door to memory, healing, and self-discovery.
Samantha splits her time between Orange County, California, and the quiet charm of Hopwood, Pennsylvania. Her stories are rooted in the landscapes and legacies of Southwestern Pennsylvania, blending poetic prose with psychological depth.
